The word ‘KUTUMB’, derived from the ancient Indo-Aryan language Sanskrit, simply means ‘family’. But the word ‘family’, far from being simple, itself contains a world of meanings. Under a single roof called ‘home’, the family comprises individuals bound together by feelings of love, care, trust and belonging. The protective father, the caring mother and the loving siblings make a complete universe in itself, spread in the space of common ancestry, lit in the light of hope and nourished by the nectar of unity.

Thousands of years ago, our wise ancestors gave us the ennobling concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ meaning ‘The whole earth is one family’. The ancient Sanskrit text of Maha Upanishad, Chapter 6, Verses 71 to 73 clearly illustrate that familial bonds go much beyond race, colour, religion, caste, creed, culture, language or province. What matters is whether we consider someone ‘our own’ or ‘otherwise’. Nowhere else but in India could have been born the concept of a world without borders, with everyone living together as ‘We are one!’ India taught the world the lesson – There are no strangers in the world, only friends and family waiting to be discovered!  Read More

HIGHLIGHTS OF KUTUMB

WALKWAY OF LIFE

WALKWAY OF LIFE

Walking is perhaps the best exercise we can give ourselves. It activates the brain to maintain balance, keeps the spine straight, exerts all muscles of the lower limbs, improves vision and sharpens reflexes. After all, man has simian characteristics and is meant to be on the move, not sit around idly all day. No wonder, people several decades ago lived long lives free from obesity, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes – maladies that haunt the whole world in the twenty-first century.
It’s not that we have forgotten the benefits of walking, or given up the habit. Millions of people all over the world regularly go for walks, especially in the morning in urban areas. For those living in villages, walking long distances is an integral part of everyday work – be it farming, trade or vocation.

JUNGLE GARDEN

JUNGLE GARDEN

Trees are considered deities in Hindu culture. In the past man knew the significance of trees. Actually the natural resources that we use in our daily lives need decades to form. Modernization is harming nature at the same pace. Considering nature as a part of our lives, KUTUMB has brought about this AFFORESTATION PROGRAMME. Numerous varieties of trees have been planted here, so that birds can build nests and eat fruits; butterflies may have flowers to flit about in, we can get clean pure air and also stop soil erosion.  Read More

GAZEBO

GAZEBO

A gazebo is a pavilion structure, sometimes octagonal or turret-shaped, often built in a park, garden or a spacious public area. They are open on all sides and provide shade, shelter from rain and a place to relax, while acting as an ornamental feature.
Now the question arises: Why did we build a gazebo at our KUTUMB Project? To begin with, a gazebo is more than a mere structure; it becomes a part of the lives of all residents. People of all ages, tastes, attitudes and mindsets gather at this watering hole for a variety of reasons. They chat, gossip, argue, discuss, brainstorm, debate or simply enjoy what they call ‘Me Time’. Read More

LIVE WITH AYURVEDA – HEALTH CARE

Everyone knows that Ayurveda, the oldest system of medicine in the world, originated in India over 5,000 years ago. The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘Ayur’ (life) and ‘Veda’ (science or knowledge). The ‘Susruta Samhita’ and the ‘Charak Samhita’ are profound expositions of this ancient method of healing. Read More
